It's creation is to honor all the U.S. Merchant (Marines) Service, especially my father, who served our country.
During World War II alone, the Merchant (Marines) Service suffered the highest percentage (1 in 32) of fatalities of any branch of the Armed Services.

| The U.S. Merchant Seamen who served their Country during WW II, received little recognition for their efforts. Many groups such as the VFW still support and fight to deny them this earned right. It took over 30 years, a court order, and a 1999 federal law. |
