The 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A was a special limited production model built so the Challenger could comptete in the SCCA's legendary Trans Am series. Dodge would add plenty of unique features. Some of the features would include a matte black fiberglass hood with a functional scoop, the famous 340 cubic inch small block engine equiped with three 2-barrel carburetors (better known as a Six Pack) was factory under-rated at 290 horsepower, though it was closer to 350 HP and a low restriction, dual side exit exhaust. It could do 0 to 60 in about 60 seconds amd a quarter mile E.T.'s in the mid 14 seconds.
Since my teenage years (1970s) the Dodge Challenger series have always been my favorite American made car. This model was the car of my dreams. When this model actually came out into production my father owned the Dodge dealership in Gardner, Massachusetts. he had one ordered, and I got the privilege to get it ready to sale after the shop's mechanic checked it out. I was even given a ride in it. I can say this after 30 plus years how the ride went, SWEET!!!!
For starters this is my first car build since I was a teenager back in the 70's. This build is basically an out of the box. The only addition is the vinyl roof I added. I created a template using an old MPC Dodge Challenger model I built back in the 70's. Ireplicate the vinyl roof, I selected the foil liner of a cigarette pack, because the textured once painted rendered a good facsimile of the vinyl. Once, I got the foil, I attached it to the roof using superglue.
The paint scheme Red exterior with a white interior and vinyl roof I verified its accuracy via numerous websites dedicated to the Dodge Challenger and the Challenger T/A. I selected Boyd enamel model paint to do this model, except the flat black which was Model Masters flat black enamel. I used Testors 52709 Boyd Red for the body, Testors 52719 White Primer for the interior, and Testors 52720 High Gloss Clear for a clear glossy top coat.
