Setting Up a Dial Up Connection in Windows XP



Step 1. Click on the "Start" button and click on "Control Panel". (see step 1.a if your start menu does not look like the one pictured here)





1.a If your start menu looks like this, click on Start, then settings, then Control Panel.




Step 2. If your Control Panel looks like this, click on the "Switch to Classic View" link, otherwise, go to Step 3.




Step 3. Once your control panel looks like this, click on the "Network Connections" Icon.




Step 4. On the left side column, click on "Create a new connection".




Step 5. Now you are at the New Connection Wizard. Just click next here.




Step 6. Make sure the green dot is on "Connect to the Internet" then click next.




Step 7. Make sure the dot is on "Connect using a dial-up modem, then click next.




Step 8. Click on "Set up my connection manually" . Once that is done click next.




Step 9. Type in TRAIN for the name of your ISP. It doesnt matter if it is capital or lowercase.




Step 10. You will need to type in the local phone number for your town. Once you have the correct phone number typed in, click next.

Step 11. Now type in your TRAIN username and password. This information can be found on the setup sheet you received when you set up your account. If you do not know this information please call the Helpdesk at 967-2900 (1-866-967-2900 Toll Free) for assistance. Once you have this typed in just hit next. Do not add or remove any checkmarks in the 3 boxes on the bottom.




Step 12. You have now finished setting up your dial-up connection. If you want, you can put a check mark in the "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop" box. When you are ready, click finish.




Step 13. Your connection is complete now and if you wish to connect now you can. If you do not want to connect at this time, you will need to click on the "Start" button and then on "Internet Explorer". If you wish to connect now, just click "Dial".
