EDUCATION
The Licking R-8 School District is a comprehensive K-12 school district with programs to meet the needs of all the students in the district, along with opportunities to participate in sports, clubs and organizations, and fine arts activities (music, choir, band, art, etc). The district's staff is composed of 4 administrators, 4 counselors, 61 teachers, 14 paraprofessionals and 34 support staff members. The average number of years of experience for teachers is 13.7 and the average teacher's salary is $31,909. The current district enrollment in grades K-12 is 853. Licking High School has a comprehensive academic program and offers a wide range of classes. Students may select either a vocational track or a college prep track including dual enrollment courses allowing them to earn college credits while still in high school. LHS is an A+ school. Students who qualify may receive reimbursement for junior college, vocational or technical schooling at Missouri facilities after graduation. LHS offers a counseling program which services all students. They also offer the Bridges Alternative School for students not achieving successfully in the traditional classroom settings. LHS offers numerous clubs and extracurricular activities to join as well.
Licking Jr. High School consists of seventh and eight grade students. A balanced curriculum is offered focusing on core academics as well as physical education, art, music and life skills. Seventh and eight grade students may participate in extracurricular sports including volleyball, cheerleading and basketball.
Licking Elementary School offers a comprehensive program for kindergarten through sixth grade in core academics as well as physical education, music, art and library skills. Licking Elementary uses the Accelerated Reader Program and Accelerated Math. They also provide the Parents as Teachers Program, Fitness for Life Program for fourth through sixth graders, and Early Wildcat Learning Program for four to five year olds.
Bus transportation is available to students living within the district. The cafeterias provide breakfast and lunch for all students to purchase. The free and reduced meal plans are also available for students who qualify.
